DAMA IA/MN December Chapter Presentation – Statistical Process Control
When: Wednesday, December 20, 2023 9:00am CST
Host: Minnesota Chapter
Speaker: Greg Klaus
Presentation Description:
Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a powerful tool for understanding variation and detecting anomalies in data. In fact, SPC is the basis for modern quality management (W.E. Deming). In this session, an overview of SPC will be given, and how Medtronic has implemented SPC as the backbone of in-house active data quality checks and active data management. That is to say, data is not pushed to its target and not seen by users unless it passes data quality checks. When anomalies are detected, a data steward analyzes the defect to determine proper remediation.
SPC is briefly mentioned in the DAMA-DMBOK. This session is designed to elaborate further on the power and use of SPC. In addition to data anomaly detection, SPC can analyze refresh process chains (duration, start-time, and end-time). In fact, SPC can be applied to measure the variation of any process (not limited to data management but also business KPIs) where data is collected
